For a lot of people, making money from the comfort of their own home or while traveling abroad, is still a foreign concept.
Even though MILLIONS of people spend BILLIONS of dollars every single day through sites like Amazon, Ebay, Etsy... and on an untold amount of smaller, yet VERY successful ecommerce stores, there’s still a ridiculous amount of people that think making money online is a “scam”.
...and for good reason.
For so many years, the only “business opportunity” that people have been exposed to is (in my opinion) the “dreaded” Network Marketing Company…
Here’s a quick rundown on how they work, why most folks jump blindly into them, only to quickly find out they either aren’t cut out for it, or even have what it takes to be an entrepreneur in the first place…
Does this sound familiar?
You have a friend, family member, or acquaintance that introduces you to this new “opportunity” where you can make a Zillion dollars overnight and live your wildest dreams!
All you have to do is come to this “meeting”... There you’ll meet a guy/girl who’ll tell you all about this “amazing” NEW program that turns ordinary people, just like you, into a rich, successful business “owner” in just a few short months! All you have to do is “enroll” 3-10 of your close friends or family members, and build a team selling this HOT new product (which oddly will be in stores soon).
BUT, you must be “coachable” and willing to “do whatever it takes to succeed”.
I know I just used a bunch of “quotes”, but I’m trying to convey some sarcasm here… ;-)
What ends up happening, much like a self-help seminar, is you get energized from the idea and the potential to escape your current, unwanted reality.
Then you go out and start beating people over the head with this “awesome” new product! Because “all you gotta to do is sign up! We can sell these products and get out of debt! ... Just sign up 3-10 of your friends under me and we can…” #RinseandRepeat.
Let’s be clear for a second. I’m in no way bashing or hating on Network Marketing companies as a whole (I kinda am though)… Even though the majority of them end up dying-out or getting shut down by the FTC for shady practices.
But there are some people who actually succeed with them. What they don’t tell you about these particular people however, is they’re actually bad-ass salespeople and recruiters. So it almost doesn’t matter who they decide to join. If the offer is good, they’ll bring in customers.
They also have a skillset that the company doesn’t have the time or resources to invest in everybody who signs-up. So the focus is to find the people who KNOW HOW TO SELL, and have them bring in and KEEP as many people in the loop as possible...
So what does all this have to do with the belief (or lack thereof) in making money online?
9 times out of 10, when you’re exposed to something negative, when a similar situation presents itself, your internal programming kicks into overdrive and attempts to protect you from the previous experience.
For most people, their very first glimpse into what’s supposed to be a business for them, ends up being a complete failure.
Instead of teaching people the principles of selling that work, and how NOT to piss everyone off (this is key), these companies focus on recruitment. This works great for them because it can grow an organization VERY QUICKLY and increase their bottom line exponentially. But at the end of the day, it leaves the majority of those who invested... broke, embarrassed, and completely demotivated.
THIS, is what helps to strengthen the BELIEF system, that online marketing is just like most of those MLM offers… a SCAM.
And let me say again, not every one of them is out to waste your time and feed on your bank account like a money-hungry vampire. But what people don’t realize is these organizations KNOW the vast majority of people won’t succeed.
When you fail because you haven’ been properly coached or were never taught how real sales & marketing works, it can be devastating! This will no doubt adversely affect your thoughts toward building a business of your own.
But this isn’t the only culprit. Society as a whole still pushes the “Get good grades so you can go to college, so you can get a degree, so you can get a good job” agenda.
These are the same beliefs that lead you to believe that making a serious income from your laptop or smartphone is just an attempt to get your credit card info...
(*Note: Scams DO exist so be careful of what you get involved with. Always do your research before giving anyone your hard-earned money. Always ask questions. And if you feel uncomfortable, walk away. NEVER let anyone pressure you into doing something you don’t want to do!)
Yet, the biggest financial rewards on the planet are given to the marketer/ceo who chose to forge his/her own path in life.
This goes against what the majority of people say will bring you success… despite not actually experiencing it for themselves in the first place…
If you don’t think you can replace your income with internet marketing, you won’t… You also won’t associate yourself with anyone who thinks it’s possible, cutting you off from potentially meeting or networking with someone who does this stuff in real life.
Kinda sounds like the Law of Attraction, huh? ;-)
At the end of the day, what we believe affects our thinking, which affects our decision making down to smallest detail, which eventually, determines our experiences…
This goes DOUBLE for your customers!
What do they believe about your brand? What do they believe about your products? What do they believe about the industry/market? What do they believe about themselves? This should be taken into consideration at all levels of thought and action planning.
Although it seems like a lot to think about, it’s essential to know and understand these things on a deep level.
Because if you don’t, your competition will. And in this industry, what you don’t know, won’t just hurt you, it’ll bankrupt you… and what you believe, could literally mean the difference between making one dollar, versus one MILLION dollars!
